Our discussion approach
Begin with the problem the practice wants to solve. Is the proposed tool interpreting an image, reducing administrative work or supporting communication? Then identify who will use it and who will review its output. Keeping the task narrow makes training and evaluation more meaningful.
From interest to a decision
Ask each participant to describe one expected benefit and the evidence needed to judge it. A clinician may focus on the reliability of an output, while a coordinator may focus on finding the correct case. Document the differences before selecting an evaluation. The result should be a defined question for the supplier and a realistic trial scope, not a general statement that the practice has “adopted AI”.
A closer look
| Focus | What to look at | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Administrative AI | Supports a nonclinical task. | Measure the defined workflow outcome. |
| Image analysis | Produces an interpretation of an image. | Review task-specific evidence and responsibilities. |
| Education | Supports learning or discussion. | Keep educational use distinct from patient care. |
